Mercur, Utah Lorandite and Gillulyite-

     Welcome to my Mercur Lorandite and Gillulyite page.  Back in 2002, I helped to prepared and sell the world's finest lot of lorandite, found in this Utah, Carlin Type gold deposit.  This discovery was prominently mentioned in the "What's New" in the Mineralogical Record for the Fall Denver Show, 2002.       Although this specimen lot has been almost completely dispersed to collectors and museums over the past few years, I still have one good miniature left and the pictured thumbnails.  If you have any questions, please e-mail me.  SCOTT

Lorandite #3-  A 2.0 x 1.0 x 1.0cm matrix of white barite, yellow orpiment and gray carbon, with 5 x 7mm cherry-red lorandite cleavage, which shows a crude 5mm crystal face up against the barite- $150

Lorandite #4-  A huge, 1.6 x 1.4cm chunky but cleaved lorandite crystal, well centered, with orpiment, realgar and barite as the 3.8 x 3.6 x 1.5cm matrix. The piece has been stabilized, as it has a crack going through the middle of the matrix. The display side does not show it as prominently as the back. I handled the entire lot of world-class Mercur lorandites back in 2002 and I would say that this is about the 12-14th best piece of the lot (10 pieces had complete or nearly complete crystals).
